Elon Musk ประกาศแผนการเปิดตัวรถยนต์ไร้คนขับของ Tesla ที่เมืองออสติน รัฐเท็กซัส ว่ามีกำหนดการเบื้องต้น (tentatively) วันที่ 22 มิถุนายน แต่ก็อาจเปลี่ยนแปลงได้

นอกจากนี้ Musk ยังบอกว่า Tesla จะส่งมอบรถยนต์ที่ลูกค้าสั่งซื้อ โดยให้รถขับออกจากโรงงานไปยังบ้านของลูกค้าเอง ในวันที่ 28 มิถุนายนด้วย

ตอนนี้มีผู้คนในเมืองออสติน เริ่มพบ Tesla Model Y ที่ไม่มีคนขับนั่งเลย เริ่มวิ่งทดสอบบนถนนในเมืองแล้ว แต่จากคลิปเราจะเห็นรถ Tesla คันที่สองวิ่งตามหลังมาด้วย ซึ่งน่าจะเป็นเจ้าหน้าที่ความปลอดภัยนั่งตามมาเฝ้าระวังและควบคุมรถแบบรีโมทได้ถ้าจำเป็น
